The Dorset Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf in peaceful countryside near Bere Regis and Wareham, making it an excellent choice for societies and groups looking for plenty of variety during the same stay. Designed by respected golf architect Martin Hawtree, the three nine-hole loops – Lakeland, Parkland and Woodland – can be combined into different 18-hole layouts, giving repeat rounds a noticeably different feel.
The Lakeland and Parkland courses are the longer of the three loops, with lakes influencing play on more than half of the holes. Large, undulating greens and Hawtree's distinctive clover-shaped bunkers place a premium on accurate approaches and good course management. The combination of Lakeland and Parkland creates a par-72 championship layout.
The Woodland Course provides a contrasting challenge. Shorter and tighter, it has been carved through mature woodland and rhododendrons, rewarding accuracy and sensible positioning from the tee. Combining Woodland with either Lakeland or Parkland creates a par-69 layout. The rhododendrons are particularly impressive during May and June, when sections of the course become surrounded by colourful flowers.
The course also changes character throughout the year. Wetter winter conditions create more target-style golf, while firmer summer fairways introduce greater run and allow golfers to use the slopes and run-offs surrounding the greens more creatively. The greens are particularly substantial, with some measuring around 40 yards from front to back.
Practice facilities include a TrackMan driving range, large putting green, practice bunker and dedicated chipping and pitching area. Five PGA Professionals provide coaching, while the golf shop offers equipment, custom fitting and club repairs. Visitors can book both 18-hole and 27-hole rounds, with buggies and trolleys also available.
