Shendish Manor Golf Course
Hemel Hempstead
Shendish Manor Golf Course is an attractive 18-hole, par-70 parkland course set within 160 acres of Hertfordshire countryside near Hemel Hempstead. Measuring 5,660 yards, it may not be one of the longest courses in the region, but a mixture of woodland, bunkers, natural hazards and well-positioned greens ensures accuracy and course management remain important throughout the round.
The course offers plenty of variety as it moves between more open parkland and tighter, tree-lined sections. Golfers are introduced with a par three featuring an undulating green before a series of shorter holes where good positioning can create early scoring opportunities. As the round develops, mature trees increasingly influence tee shots and approaches, while doglegs and strategically positioned bunkers make simply reaching for the driver on every tee a risky strategy.
The back nine provides a particularly enjoyable test. Accurate driving becomes increasingly important, with several holes requiring golfers to find the correct side of the fairway to open up the green. One par three plays longer than its measured distance and features what the club describes as its trickiest green, while the round concludes with an uphill par five that provides a suitably demanding finish.
Shendish Manor welcomes visiting golfers throughout the year, making it particularly convenient for societies, fourballs and couples planning a Hertfordshire golf break. The adjoining Shendish Manor Hotel means accommodation, dining at The Orangery Restaurant and the first tee are all within the same estate, removing the need for additional golf transfers.
Its location is another major advantage. Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and Watford are all within easy reach, while London Luton Airport is around 20 minutes away. For golfers wanting a relaxed parkland round combined with straightforward stay-and-play accommodation and excellent access from London and the Home Counties, Shendish Manor is a very practical choice.
