Rudding Park Golf Club offers an excellent all-round golf experience just outside Harrogate, combining the 18-hole Hawtree Course, a six-hole par-three Short Course and some of the strongest practice facilities in Yorkshire. With the luxury Rudding Park hotel immediately alongside, it works particularly well for golfers looking for a premium stay-and-play break where the course, accommodation, dining and spa facilities are all together.
The main Hawtree Course was designed by Open Championship golf architect Martin Hawtree. This 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout measures approximately 6,883 yards and winds through mature 18th-century parkland, with woodland, water, bunkering and changing elevations creating the challenge. The course is designed to remain enjoyable for different standards of golfer while still demanding good positioning and thoughtful club selection.
One of our favourite sections comes across holes 12, 13 and 14, which Rudding Park describes as its Yorkshire version of Augusta's famous Amen Corner. Mature woodland surrounds the holes, while streams and rhododendrons add both colour and danger. The signature 14th, Rhododendron Glade, is a 163-yard uphill par three played into the prevailing wind, with four bunkers protecting an undulating green. It looks inviting from the tee, but par is certainly no guarantee.
Golfers can also play the six-hole Short Course, constructed to USGA standards and made entirely of par threes. Its standout fifth hole recreates the famous island-green 17th at TPC Sawgrass, playing the same 137-yard distance. The course was named Short Course of the Year at the 2025 Golf Course Awards and works brilliantly as a warm-up, extra evening round or introduction to the game.
Practice facilities are another major strength. Rudding Park has a 34-bay floodlit TrackMan Driving Range, two indoor simulator bays, PGA professional tuition, a golf shop and custom-club fitting. Visitors are welcome on both courses, and there is no handicap requirement to play at Rudding Park. Buggies, trolleys and rental clubs are also available.
We recommend Rudding Park for golfers who want quality parkland golf with excellent practice facilities and luxury accommodation on the doorstep. Harrogate is only a few minutes away, making it equally easy to combine the golf with restaurants, bars and sightseeing during a longer Yorkshire break.

Wetherby is a very handy Yorkshire golf base, especially for golfers who want easy A1(M) access, a smart market-town feel and quick links to Leeds, York and Harrogate. The town council describes Wetherby as an attractive visitor spot with independent shops, cafés, places to stay, riverside walks and access from the A1(M), which makes it a nicely rounded short-break base.
The main local course is Wetherby Golf Club, an 18-hole parkland course set in Yorkshire countryside alongside the River Wharfe. The club promotes its green fairways and riverside setting, while course listings describe it as a par-73 layout of around 6,700 yards, originally founded in 1910 and redesigned by Dr Alister MacKenzie in 1919.
Away from golf, Wetherby has a strong racing and day-trip angle. Wetherby Racecourse offers racing, dining and hospitality, while the town’s riverside walks and bridge make it easy for a relaxed post-round stroll. Wetherby is also well placed for Harrogate, York, Leeds, Stockeld Park, Bramham Park and the wider Yorkshire countryside.
