Dartmouth Golf and Country Club
Dartmouth
Dartmouth Golf & Country Club offers 27 holes of parkland golf within the rolling countryside of South Devon. Located near Blackawton and approximately five miles from Dartmouth, it combines a challenging championship layout with a shorter course suitable for additional rounds and golfers of mixed abilities.
The par-72 Championship Course was designed by Jeremy Pern and opened in 1992. It extends to almost 7,200 yards from the back tees, although four teeing options make the layout accessible to a broad range of handicaps. Its dramatic terrain, meandering streams, undulating greens and numerous water features place a premium on sound course management. Players must judge changes in elevation carefully and choose when to attack rather than relying solely on distance.
The Dartmouth Course is a nine-hole, par-33 layout measuring 2,252 yards. Five par threes are joined by two par fours and two par fives, creating more variety than its length might suggest. The fairways are generally more generous than those on the Championship Course, but water and contoured greens maintain the challenge. Three sets of tees allow it to be played as an 18-hole round, making it ideal for arrival-day golf, beginners or players wanting a second game.
Practice facilities include nets, grass and artificial teeing areas, a chipping green, practice bunker and a large putting green beside the clubhouse. The professional shop offers club, trolley and buggy hire, although winter weather can occasionally result in carry-only restrictions.
The adjoining Dartmouth Hotel provides rooms, self-catering cottages, a bar and bistro and spa facilities. Stay-and-play packages frequently combine Championship Course rounds with additional golf on the shorter Dartmouth Course, making the venue particularly convenient for societies and mixed golf groups.
Beyond the resort, Dartmouth, the River Dart, Blackpool Sands and the South Devon coastline provide plenty of options for non-golfing time.

About The Area
Totnes is a lovely base for a South Devon golf holiday, especially for golfers who want character, countryside, river views and easy access to some excellent nearby courses. It is not a typical golf resort town, and that is part of the appeal. Totnes has a relaxed, independent feel, with a historic high street, local food, interesting shops and the River Dart running through the town.
For golf, we would look at nearby Dainton Park Golf Club and The Dartmouth Hotel, Golf & Spa. Dainton Park is a well-regarded parkland course on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, designed to follow the natural shape of the land. The Dartmouth Hotel, Golf & Spa is another strong option, with an 18-hole Championship Course and a shorter 9-hole Dartmouth Course, which makes it useful for mixed-ability groups or a more relaxed second round.
Away from golf, Totnes is full of easy extras. We would recommend a walk up to Totnes Castle for views over the town, River Dart and Dartmoor, then time around the riverside, cafés, markets and independent shops. You can also add paddleboarding, kayaking, River Dart trips, Dartington Estate or a day towards Dartmouth and the South Devon coast.
Our tip: choose Totnes if you want a golf break with proper local flavour, good nearby golf and a softer, more personal Devon holiday feel.
