Bowood Park Hotel & Golf Club is an excellent base for a relaxed golf break in North Cornwall, combining comfortable accommodation with an impressive parkland course immediately outside the hotel. Set near Camelford within 230 acres of rolling countryside and woodland, the venue is particularly convenient for groups seeking plenty of golf without daily transfers.
Opened in 1992, the 18-hole course was designed with input from Brian Huggett, Bob Knott and Eddie Connaughton. It measures 6,692 yards and plays to a par of 72, with USGA-specification greens helping to provide reliable year-round playing conditions. The two loops return to the clubhouse, making the layout well suited to society trips and larger golf groups.
The opening nine moves across higher, undulating ground, while the back nine descends into the wooded River Allen valley. Water appears throughout the course, including the memorable par-four 12th, where the approach is played towards an island green reached by a covered wooden bridge. Practice facilities include a covered driving range, putting green and chipping area.
The hotel has 31 en-suite bedrooms, including standard, family and group-friendly configurations. Some rooms overlook the course or surrounding countryside, while a dedicated resident locker room means clubs and equipment can be stored securely overnight. The Bowood Restaurant serves freshly prepared dishes using locally sourced ingredients, and the informal clubhouse bar overlooks the putting green and 18th.
Bowood Park also works well as part of a wider North Cornwall golf itinerary. The links courses at St Enodoc and Trevose are both within touring distance, giving visiting golfers the opportunity to combine Bowood’s sheltered parkland challenge with rounds beside the Atlantic. Tintagel, Boscastle, Port Isaac and Bodmin Moor provide worthwhile options away from the course.

Camelford is a peaceful base for a golf holiday in North Cornwall, combining countryside golf with easy access to rugged moorland, historic coastal villages and some of the county’s best-known links courses. Positioned between Bodmin Moor and Cornwall’s north coast, it is especially well suited to golfers who prefer quiet evenings and scenic drives rather than a busy resort atmosphere. Cornwall Airport Newquay is approximately 23 miles, or 37 kilometres, away, and a car is recommended for exploring the region.
The main local attraction is Bowood Park Hotel & Golf Club, situated just outside Camelford.
