Bowood Park Golf Club
Camelford
Bowood Park Golf Club occupies 230 acres of rolling hills and woodland near Camelford in North Cornwall. The course opened in 1992 and was created with input from former Ryder Cup player Brian Huggett, Bob Knott and agronomist Eddie Connaughton. Its attractive parkland setting and varied challenge make it an enjoyable addition to a Cornwall golf holiday.
The 18-hole course plays to a par of 72 and measures 6,692 yards from the white tees. Its opening nine remains on the higher part of the estate, where broad views and relatively generous playing corridors allow golfers to settle into their round. Water is a recurring feature, however, and careful positioning is important when approaching the USGA-specification greens.
Among the early highlights is the 600-yard par-five 7th, a formidable three-shot hole that rewards patience and accurate placement. The back nine descends past historic Lanteglos Church into the River Allen valley, bringing streams, woodland and more dramatic changes in elevation into play.
Bowood Park’s signature hole is the 385-yard par-four 12th. Known as Azalea, it finishes at an island green reached by a distinctive covered wooden footbridge. The hole demands a well-positioned drive followed by a confident approach across the water.
Practice facilities include a ten-bay driving range, chipping green, putting green and warm-up net. Buggies and club hire are available, while the on-site golf shop and bar make the venue particularly convenient for visiting golfers.
The adjoining hotel has 31 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant and secure resident golf storage. This makes Bowood Park especially well suited to golf groups seeking comfortable accommodation beside the first tee, with Tintagel, Boscastle and the North Cornwall coastline close enough for time away from the course.

About The Area
Camelford is a peaceful base for a golf holiday in North Cornwall, combining countryside golf with easy access to rugged moorland, historic coastal villages and some of the county’s best-known links courses. Positioned between Bodmin Moor and Cornwall’s north coast, it is especially well suited to golfers who prefer quiet evenings and scenic drives rather than a busy resort atmosphere. Cornwall Airport Newquay is approximately 23 miles, or 37 kilometres, away, and a car is recommended for exploring the region.
The main local attraction is Bowood Park Hotel & Golf Club, situated just outside Camelford. Its 18-hole, par-72 championship course measures 6,692 yards and is set across 230 acres of rolling parkland, wooded valleys and former deer park. Water, bunkering and changing elevations provide the challenge, while several tee positions make the course enjoyable for mixed-handicap groups. On-site accommodation and practice facilities also make Bowood Park a convenient centre for a dedicated Cornwall golf break.
A longer stay can include St Enodoc Golf Club at Rock, where golfers can choose between two links courses set among natural dunes beside the Camel Estuary. Its seaside setting, views towards Padstow and traditional links character provide a strong contrast to Bowood Park’s inland layout. The Point at Polzeath is another visitor-friendly option, allowing groups to add further variety to their itinerary.
Away from golf, Camelford sits close to Bodmin Moor, an atmospheric landscape of heather, grassland, granite outcrops and prehistoric remains. Walks around Rough Tor provide far-reaching views, while the north coast offers beaches, cliff paths and small fishing villages.
Tintagel Castle is one of our recommended days out, bringing together dramatic coastal scenery, medieval history and the legends of King Arthur. Port Isaac, Boscastle and the beach at Trebarwith Strand are also within reach.
We particularly recommend Camelford for a spring or early-autumn golf break, when the area is ideal for combining parkland and links golf with walks, coastal drives and traditional Cornish food.
