Bath Golf Club

Bath

average rating is 4 out of 5

Founded in 1880 and set on Bathampton Down, Bath Golf Club is one of the oldest courses in England and offers sweeping views over the historic city of Bath. This par-71 parkland-meets-downland course stretches over 6,400 yards and features fast-draining fairways, quick greens, and natural hazards shaped by the rolling landscape. The design rewards precision over power, with narrow approaches and subtle contours demanding thought on every shot. The 10th and 11th, perched above the city, offer spectacular panoramic views. The welcoming clubhouse provides traditional dining and a well-stocked bar, making it a favourite among locals and visitors. Bath Golf Club provides a classic golfing experience just minutes from the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage city – perfect for a weekend getaway combining sport and sightseeing.

About The Area

Trowbridge is a practical Wiltshire base for golfers who want countryside golf, historic towns and easy access to Bath, Bradford-on-Avon and the wider West Country. It is not a traditional golf resort, but for groups looking for a flexible golf holiday in Wiltshire, it works really well. You get good nearby courses, simple travel, local food and plenty of places to explore away from the fairways.

For golf, we would recommend building the trip around Cumberwell Park Golf Club near Bradford-on-Avon. It is one of the leading golf venues in the South West, set in Wiltshire countryside with multiple 9-hole loops, rolling land, lakes, streams, woodland and plenty of variety for different abilities. Westbury Golf Club is another useful nearby option, offering a 9-hole course that can be played as 18, set in mature parkland between Westbury and Trowbridge at the foot of the White Horse.

Away from golf, Trowbridge has more character than many visitors expect. Visit Wiltshire describes it as Wiltshire’s historic county town, with woollen cloth heritage, Trowbridge Museum, parks and a growing food and arts scene. We would also recommend adding Bradford-on-Avon, The Courts Garden, Great Chalfield Manor or Bath for a longer stay.

Our tip: choose Trowbridge for a Wiltshire golf break that is easy, good value and well placed for both golf and sightseeing.
