About The Area
Woodbridge is a cracking Suffolk base for a relaxed UK golf break, especially for golfers who want riverside charm, heathland golf and easy access to the Suffolk Coast. Set on the River Deben, the town has independent shops, pubs, restaurants, riverside walks and a lovely market-town feel. The Suffolk Coast describes Woodbridge as a vibrant market town on the banks of the River Deben and a useful base for exploring the wider coast.
The main golf draw is Woodbridge Golf Club, founded in 1893. It offers an 18-hole Heath Course and a 9-hole Forest Course, both set on classic Suffolk heathland. The club highlights quick-draining conditions, which is handy for year-round golf, and describes the Heath Course as a serious challenge after more than 130 years of heathland golf.
For extra golf nearby, Ufford Park Resort is a strong option just outside Woodbridge, with an 18-hole course, golf academy, driving range and adventure golf. Seckford Golf Club is another local choice and was named England Golf Club of the Year 2023, giving groups a useful mix of formal and more relaxed golf options close to town.
Away from the fairways, Woodbridge has plenty to keep a short break interesting. The riverside walk, Tide Mill, local markets and nearby Sutton Hoo are all easy add-ons, while the Suffolk Coast and Heaths landscape gives the area a softer, outdoorsy feel.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Woodbridge works best as a peaceful Suffolk golf weekend, a heathland-golf short break, or part of a wider East Anglia itinerary with Ipswich, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and the Suffolk Coast. It is not a big resort destination, but for character, good local golf and riverside charm, it is a very tidy UK option.
