About The Area
Wien, better known in English as Vienna, is one of Europe’s most elegant city bases for a golf holiday. It combines accessible courses with imperial architecture, coffee-house culture, wine taverns and the River Danube, making it ideal for golfers who want a proper city break alongside their rounds.
The most central option is Golf Club Wien, Austria’s oldest golf club and a traditional city course with a classic clubhouse feel. For a more modern setup, Golfpark Vienna offers an 18-hole championship-style course, a 9-hole course and extensive practice facilities, making it useful for mixed-ability groups or arrival-day golf. Just outside the city, Fontana Golf Club near Baden is one of the region’s strongest championship venues, with high-end facilities, water hazards and convenient access from both Vienna city centre and Vienna-Schwechat Airport.
Golf around Wien is best from April to October, with May to September usually offering the most comfortable temperatures, longer daylight and stronger course conditions. The city’s location also makes it easy to combine golf with nearby Lower Austria courses such as Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg or Golfclub Schloss Schönborn near Göllersdorf.
Off the course, Vienna is superb. The historic centre, Schönbrunn Palace, museums, opera houses and traditional cafés give the city huge cultural depth. Its wine culture is also a major bonus: Vienna is unusual because it grows enough wine within the city limits to be genuinely significant, and its Heurige wine taverns are a classic post-round experience.
For golfers seeking refined city life, quality nearby golf and memorable evenings filled with food, wine and culture, Wien is one of Central Europe’s most polished and enjoyable golf escapes.
