Links Leuk Golf Resort
Susten
Set in the Rhône Valley in the canton of Valais, Links Leuk Golf Resort offers one of Switzerland’s most unusual golfing experiences: an inland course built in the spirit of traditional Scottish links golf. Designed by Scottish architect John Chilver-Stainer, the 18-hole, par-72 layout uses firm fairways, fast greens, deep bunkering and natural rough to create a strategic test that feels very different from the more typical alpine parkland courses nearby.
The course measures around 6,140 metres from the back tees and is laid out across relatively flat valley terrain, with water hazards and changing winds adding to the challenge. It rewards creative shot-making, controlled approaches and good course management rather than simply relying on power.
The resort also includes an on-site hotel, restaurant, bar, terrace and practice facilities, making it a convenient stay-and-play option in the Valais region. With mountain scenery surrounding the course and easy access to nearby alpine towns, Links Leuk is ideal for golfers wanting a distinctive Swiss golf break with a slightly different edge.

About The Area
Susten sits in the Leuk region of Valais, on the floor of the Rhône Valley, surrounded by vineyards, mountain slopes and the protected landscapes of Pfyn-Finges Nature Park. It is a quieter alternative to the bigger Swiss resort towns, but for golfers it has one major advantage: you are right beside one of the most distinctive courses in Valais.
The key venue is Golf Club Leuk, also known as Links Leuk Golf Resort, located in Susten itself. The 18-hole course was designed by Scottish golf architect John Chilver-Stainer, and Valais describes it as being modelled on the style of classic Scottish links courses, especially around the greens. Expect firm conditions, undulating putting surfaces, strategic bunkering and an open valley setting where wind can have a real impact on club selection.
The course gives Susten a very different feel from high-Alpine destinations such as Crans-Montana or Verbier. This is valley-floor golf: more walkable, open and playable, but still tactical enough to keep stronger golfers interested. Nearby options include Golf Club de Sierre in Granges and Golf Club de Sion, so Susten works well as part of a wider Valais golf itinerary. Switzerland Tourism notes that Valais has eight golf clubs, offering variety between mountain and flatland courses.
Off the course, Susten is well placed for exploring the Leuk area. Switzerland Tourism describes nearby Leuk as a small medieval town above the Rhône Valley, set among vineyards with views towards the Pfyn-Finges Forest. Highlights nearby include Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, Leukerbad’s thermal baths, the Dala Gorge thermal springs footbridge and local wine experiences around Sierre.
The best time to visit is spring through autumn, with the course particularly appealing in the warmer months when the valley is sunny and the surrounding vineyards are at their best. For golfers seeking Swiss scenery, links-inspired golf and a quieter base in Valais, Susten is a very handy and underrated choice.
