Sierre Golf Club
Granges
Sierre Golf Club is a lovely addition to a Switzerland golf holiday, especially for UK golfers looking to combine Alpine scenery with a more relaxed round in the Valais. Set in Granges, close to Sierre, the course sits in the Rhône Valley between Sion and Crans-Montana, making it a useful option alongside the more famous Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre. For travellers flying from the UK, Geneva is around two hours away by road, so it works well as part of a wider Swiss golf itinerary rather than a one-course trip.
The course, known as La Brèche, has 18 holes set across 55 hectares. It borders the Rhône to the north and the protected Pouta-Fontana nature reserve to the west, giving the round a peaceful, nature-led feel. Fairways run through mature trees, ponds and open green spaces, with views towards the Alps and surrounding resorts adding plenty of charm.
For golfers, Sierre is more about enjoyable holiday golf than brutal championship drama. It offers enough variety to keep the round interesting, with water, trees and changing views shaping the experience, but it remains suitable for a wide range of players. Tripadvisor describes it as a varied 18-hole course in a 55-hectare nature park, suitable for both beginners and experienced golfers.
As part of a Valais golf break, Sierre pairs well with Crans-sur-Sierre, Sion and the wider Crans-Montana region. It is ideal for golfers who want Alpine scenery, fresh air, good wine country and a calmer Swiss course between bigger-name rounds.

About The Area
Susten sits in the Leuk region of Valais, on the floor of the Rhône Valley, surrounded by vineyards, mountain slopes and the protected landscapes of Pfyn-Finges Nature Park. It is a quieter alternative to the bigger Swiss resort towns, but for golfers it has one major advantage: you are right beside one of the most distinctive courses in Valais.
The key venue is Golf Club Leuk, also known as Links Leuk Golf Resort, located in Susten itself. The 18-hole course was designed by Scottish golf architect John Chilver-Stainer, and Valais describes it as being modelled on the style of classic Scottish links courses, especially around the greens. Expect firm conditions, undulating putting surfaces, strategic bunkering and an open valley setting where wind can have a real impact on club selection.
The course gives Susten a very different feel from high-Alpine destinations such as Crans-Montana or Verbier. This is valley-floor golf: more walkable, open and playable, but still tactical enough to keep stronger golfers interested. Nearby options include Golf Club de Sierre in Granges and Golf Club de Sion, so Susten works well as part of a wider Valais golf itinerary. Switzerland Tourism notes that Valais has eight golf clubs, offering variety between mountain and flatland courses.
Off the course, Susten is well placed for exploring the Leuk area. Switzerland Tourism describes nearby Leuk as a small medieval town above the Rhône Valley, set among vineyards with views towards the Pfyn-Finges Forest. Highlights nearby include Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, Leukerbad’s thermal baths, the Dala Gorge thermal springs footbridge and local wine experiences around Sierre.
The best time to visit is spring through autumn, with the course particularly appealing in the warmer months when the valley is sunny and the surrounding vineyards are at their best. For golfers seeking Swiss scenery, links-inspired golf and a quieter base in Valais, Susten is a very handy and underrated choice.
