Concra Wood Golf & Country Club

Concra

average rating is 4 out of 5

Concra Wood Golf & Country Club is a brilliant choice for golfers who want scenic Irish parkland golf without losing that sense of drama you normally associate with the coast. Set in Castleblayney, County Monaghan, the course sits beside Lough Muckno, with rolling woodland, water views and wide panoramas across the Monaghan drumlins towards the Cooley, Mourne, Slieve Gullion and Mullyash mountains.

Designed by Christy O’Connor Senior and Christy O’Connor Junior, Concra Wood is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course that opened in the late 2000s and quickly built a strong reputation as one of Ireland’s most enjoyable modern parkland layouts. The course makes excellent use of its natural setting, with holes routed through woodland and around the lake, so the round keeps revealing new views and different challenges as you go. Lough Muckno comes into play at key points, particularly around the memorable par-five 4th, where water, position and nerve all matter.

For golf holidays in Ireland, Concra Wood works especially well as part of a Dublin, Belfast or border-region itinerary. It is roughly an hour from Dublin Airport, making it practical for UK golfers planning a short break, while its position between Dublin and Belfast gives plenty of scope for a wider multi-course trip. The clubhouse, bar and restaurant add to the experience, with panoramic views across the course and lake.

Hashtag Golf Travel can help build Concra Wood into a tailored Irish golf holiday, combining strong parkland golf, beautiful scenery and carefully planned travel logistics.

About The Area

Concra is a brilliant choice for golfers who want an Ireland golf holiday with big scenery, peaceful surroundings and a course that feels like a proper hidden gem. Set beside Lough Muckno in Castleblayney, County Monaghan, it offers a beautiful lakeside setting with rolling fairways, wooded views and a relaxed rural feel, while still being practical for a short break from the UK or Ireland.

The main attraction is Concra Wood Golf Club, an 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by Christy O’Connor Junior and Senior. The course sits on dramatic wooded land that slopes down towards Lough Muckno, creating panoramic lake views and several memorable holes shaped by water, trees and natural movement in the landscape. The club describes the setting as one of Ireland’s most beautiful places for golf, with a restaurant overlooking both the course and the lough.

Away from the fairways, Castleblayney and Lough Muckno add plenty to the trip. Lough Muckno Leisure Park was once part of the Blayney family estate and is now known for woodland, walking trails, fishing, watersports and picnic areas.

For UK golfers, Concra works well as a tailor-made Ireland golf break, especially for groups who want a scenic inland course rather than the usual coastal links route. Hashtag Golf Travel can help plan the right hotel, tee time and wider itinerary around Monaghan, Cavan, Dublin or Northern Ireland.
