Hilversumsche Golf Club
Hilversum
Located in Hilversum, southeast of Amsterdam, Hilversumsche Golf Club is one of the Netherlands’ most historic and respected golf venues. The club dates back to the late 19th century, with the course expanded to 18 holes in 1928 using a design by Harry Colt, one of golf architecture’s most influential names.
The 18-hole course has a classic heathland and woodland feel, with sandy soil, mature trees, natural contours and strategic bunkering shaping the round. It is not about overpowering the course; like many Colt designs, it rewards accuracy, angles and thoughtful course management. The original Colt character remains a key part of the layout, with later work by Sir Guy Campbell and Kyle Phillips helping refine the course while respecting its heritage.
Hilversumsche has strong tournament pedigree, having hosted the Dutch Open multiple times, which gives it extra appeal for golfers who enjoy playing courses with proper history. Visitor access may be limited compared with more commercial venues, so tee times should be checked carefully when building it into a golf package.
For Netherlands golf holidays, Hilversumsche works well as a premium addition to an Amsterdam, Utrecht or central Netherlands itinerary. It is ideal for golfers who appreciate traditional course architecture, peaceful surroundings and a more classic private-club atmosphere.

About The Area
Utrecht is one of the Netherlands’ strongest city bases for golfers who want quality inland courses, easy travel and a calmer alternative to Amsterdam. Set right in the centre of the country, it combines medieval canals, lively restaurants, strong rail links and access to some of the finest woodland golf in the Netherlands.
The standout nearby venue is Utrechtse Golfclub De Pan, located in Bosch en Duin. Founded in 1894 and redesigned by Harry Colt in the 1920s, it is one of the Netherlands’ most respected courses. The layout is set in wooded seclusion, with sandy soil, subtle height changes and strategic routing that rewards accuracy, patience and proper course management rather than brute force. It has also hosted the Dutch Open, giving it real tournament pedigree.
Closer to the city, Utrechtse Golfclub Amelisweerd offers an 18-hole course plus a 9-hole par-3 layout on the edge of Utrecht. Its natural features, trees, water hazards and bunkering make it suitable for both newer and more experienced golfers, with the Dom Tower visible nearby.
Golf around Utrecht is best from April to October, with May to September usually offering the most comfortable temperatures and longer daylight.
Off the course, Utrecht is a cracking city to explore. Its old canals, wharf-side restaurants and compact historic centre give it loads of atmosphere, while the Dom Tower is the city’s most recognisable landmark. The wider region is also excellent for cycling, forest walks and easy day trips to Amsterdam, Hilversum or the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
For golfers seeking classic Dutch woodland golf, strong course pedigree and a charming city base without Amsterdam’s crowds, Utrecht is one of the Netherlands’ most rewarding golf destinations.
