Phokeethra Country Club
Siem Reap
Located in the Cambodian countryside near Siem Reap, Phokeethra Country Club is one of Cambodia’s best-known championship golf courses and a strong addition to any Siem Reap golf itinerary. The course is closely linked with Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort and is often positioned as one of the leading golf experiences in the region.
The 18-hole, par-72 layout is around 7,145–7,364 yards. Designed by Major General Weerayudth Phetbuasak, the course combines wide fairways, generous greens, palm-lined holes, water hazards and strategic bunkering to create a round that is playable from the forward tees but much more demanding from the back tees.
Phokeethra has real tournament pedigree, having hosted international events including the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic and the 2010 Cambodian Open. That gives it more weight than a standard resort course, especially for golfers who want to play a venue with a recognised competition history.
One of the most distinctive features is the historic Roluos Bridge, an 11th-century Khmer structure within the course setting, adding a cultural element you do not often get during a round of golf. For Siem Reap itineraries, it pairs naturally with Angkor Golf Resort, Phokeethra Country Club and temple excursions, giving golfers a strong mix of sport, history and destination appeal.

About The Area
Angkor is Cambodia’s most iconic cultural region and one of the most memorable places in the world to build a golf holiday around. Centred around the Angkor Archaeological Park near Siem Reap, it gives golfers something genuinely special: modern championship courses by day, ancient Khmer temples by sunrise or sunset.
The main golf venue is Angkor Golf Resort, an 18-hole course designed by Sir Nick Faldo and located close to Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. The resort describes it as an award-winning 18-hole layout, while Faldo Design calls it one of Cambodia’s finest courses. Expect generous fairways, bold bunkering, water hazards and fast, subtly contoured greens that reward proper approach play rather than just distance.
Nearby, Phokeethra Country Club adds another strong option. It is described as Cambodia’s first championship golf course and has hosted the Cambodian Open, helping establish Siem Reap as a proper golf destination rather than just a cultural stop.
Golf in Angkor is best from November to April, when Cambodia is generally drier and more comfortable for both golf and sightseeing. The wetter months can still work, but heat, humidity and rain are more likely to shape the trip.
Off the course, Angkor is extraordinary. The UNESCO-listed Angkor site is one of Southeast Asia’s most important archaeological areas, with Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm among the headline temples. Sunrise at Angkor Wat is the classic experience, while evenings in Siem Reap bring Khmer restaurants, night markets and a relaxed social scene.
For golfers seeking quality modern courses combined with one of the world’s great cultural landscapes, Angkor delivers a rich, atmospheric and genuinely unforgettable Cambodian golf escape.
