Grand Phnom Penh Golf Club

Phnom Penh

average rating is 4 out of 5

Located on the northern outskirts of Phnom Penh, Grand Phnom Penh Golf Club is a private members’ course and one of the capital’s most convenient championship-style golf venues. Part of the Grand Phnom Penh International City development, it offers a quieter playing environment away from the busiest parts of the city while still being easy to reach from central Phnom Penh.

The course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout designed by Nicklaus Design. Sources vary slightly on total yardage, with listings commonly showing around 7,194 yards to 7,914 yards from the back tees, so it is best described as a long championship course rather than using one exact figure. Wide fairways provide some forgiveness from the tee, but the challenge increases around the greens, where mounding, bunkering and undulating putting surfaces demand more precise approach play.

The course has a pleasant parkland-style feel, with water carries, open fairways and exposed sections where wind can affect scoring. It works well for golfers looking for a strong but accessible round close to Phnom Penh, especially as part of a city-based Cambodia golf itinerary alongside Vattanac, Garden City and Chhun On.

About The Area

Sihanoukville is Cambodia’s main coastal gateway, sitting on the Gulf of Thailand and acting as the jumping-off point for islands such as Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem. For golfers, it is less of a traditional golf hub and more of a beach-and-golf extension — best suited to travellers who want coastal relaxation, island scenery and a different side of Cambodia after playing in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.

The main golf option linked with Sihanoukville is Dara Sakor Golf Resort, located further along the coast in Koh Kong Province. GolfAsian describes Dara Sakor as Cambodia’s first international beachfront golf development, with an 18-hole Ocean Course and an 18-hole Mountain Course, while also noting it is around two and a half hours from Sihanoukville International Airport. Because of that distance, it is better viewed as a wider south-coast golf experience rather than a quick local round. GolfTripz similarly positions Dara Sakor as the main golf draw “in Sihanoukville and around”, while noting it is almost two hours away.

Golf here is best planned carefully, as the region is not as course-dense as Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. The prime travel period is generally November to April, when Cambodia’s weather is drier and better suited to golf, beach days and transfers.

Off the course, Sihanoukville is all about the sea. The city gives access to beaches such as Otres and Independence, plus boat trips to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, which are known for white sand, clear water and a more relaxed island feel. Ream National Park also offers mangroves, wildlife and boat excursions for a nature-focused day out.

For golfers seeking a pure golf trip, Sihanoukville works best as an add-on to Cambodia’s stronger golf centres. For those wanting beach time, island hopping and a coastal finish to a wider Cambodia itinerary, it offers a relaxed and memorable contrast.
