Wensum Valley Golf Club is an excellent choice for a golf break in Norfolk, offering two contrasting 18-hole courses across 250 acres of countryside near Norwich. With on-site accommodation, practice facilities and plenty of golf in one location, it works particularly well for societies and groups looking for an easy stay-and-play break.
The Wensum Course is the more demanding of the two layouts. Woodland, bunkering and numerous water features shape the challenge, particularly as the round moves onto the back nine. Accuracy is important from the tee, while approaches frequently require golfers to consider slopes, water and well-defended greens. The par-five 18th provides an enjoyable finish, giving longer hitters the opportunity to attack the elevated green in two after finding the fairway.
The Valley Course offers a different experience, following gentle slopes and tree-lined fairways through the Norfolk countryside. It is suitable for a wide range of handicaps, but its undulating greens and narrow approaches mean good positioning remains important. Several holes provide genuine birdie opportunities, creating a layout that can be enjoyable for higher-handicap golfers while still rewarding accurate play.
Golfers also have access to a driving range, golf simulator and fitting suite, PGA professional tuition and a well-stocked Pro Shop. Visitors are welcomed, with green fees available across both courses, while dedicated golf-break packages make it easy to play each layout during the same stay.

Wymondham is a charming Norfolk market-town base for a relaxed UK golf break, especially for golfers who want history, countryside and easy access to Norwich without staying in the city. The town has medieval streets, independent shops, cafés and the impressive Wymondham Abbey, giving it more character than a simple overnight stop. Its self-guided heritage trail takes around 60–90 minutes, starting from the Market Cross, and links together the Abbey, medieval streets, Wymondham Abbey Station and green spaces such as Toll’s Meadow and The Lizard.
For golf, Wymondham works best as a base for nearby Norfolk courses. Barnham Broom is one of the strongest local options, with the Steel and Pennink courses, practice facilities, grass driving range, academy holes and short-game areas. It offers 36 holes across two courses in summer, making it useful for a multi-round short break.
